My Personal Homemaking Goals for 2019

Defining the Vision
I’ve just completed a month-long social media detox and low media diet so I could focus on what matters most to me: being the best wife and mother I can be. Taking a break from being active on social media (thanks to the magic of automation tools!) has helped me to put distance between myself and all the noise that so often clouded my mind. It’s hard to maintain a peaceful home when you allow the chaos of the world to invade your space. It’s also so easy to waste time absorbing social media and other types of media without being aware of it.
I’ve been surprised to find that I have a lot more time than I’d previously realized and it’s been a pleasure to spend it paying more attention to my home and the people in it. I used to regard housework solely as an exercise in futility, but even washing the dishes can be enjoyable when done with mindfulness.
I am enjoying the simplicity of my life, so I’ve decided to come up with some guidelines in order to foster more of these moments I love. I can’t achieve my goals without a plan, so here are the concrete steps I’ll be taking to grow into the person I want to be in 2019.
Spiritual Homemaking Goals
This year, I will spend more time praying for myself, my husband, and my children. My family is growing and changing so fast and I know we’ll need G-d’s help to stay close and emotionally connected with one another.
Every successful marriage requires lots of
believe all parents have spiritual authority over their children to ask for G-d’s blessings in their lives. I will be consistently journaling my prayers for my children so I can have a record of when and how G-d chooses to answer those prayers.

Financial Homemaking Goals
With a new baby coming in the late Spring, this is the perfect time to re-evaluate our finances. We need to update our insurance, our wills, increase our savings, and adjust our budget to include all the furniture and supplies we’ll need.
Since I’ve decided to put aside my VA business for now due to my health, my homeschooling obligations, and the needs of my family, our income is taking a slight hit. I’ve never been and never will be the breadwinner, by the mutual agreement of my husband and me, but having a side hustle is important to me.
There’s no such thing as too much money when you’ve got small children! My plan is to focus on increasing my blogging income because writing is what I love and it fits in perfectly with my lifestyle at this time.
Academic Homemaking Goals
My husband and I still feel that homeschooling is the best choice for our family. My son is not yet officially in school, but he does receive weekly instruction. I’ll begin formal schooling with him in the fall.
My daughter is in a split grade level this year, so I plan to school 6-7 days/week so that by the time the baby comes, we’re done until Fall.
We typically homeschool year-round, so we take breaks whenever we need to. However, with a baby due at the end of May, an official Summer vacation sounds like a good plan for us this year.
Self-Care Homemaking Goals
I’m including my self-care plans with my homemaking goals because my ability to care for my family is tied to how well I care for myself.
My basic self-care routine will be simple: going to bed by 9:30 p.m. and waking up by 5:00 a.m., drinking half my body weight in ounces of water daily, meeting my daily step goal, 10-15 minutes of weight lifting or body weight exercises, and sticking to a low carb diet.
These are the things that make me feel good and energized, so accomplishing most of these tasks in the mornings is the best way to ensure that my needs are met before I attempt to meet the needs of anyone else.
I’m also toying with the idea of continuing my social media break. As I stated earlier, I use automation tools to post, so I don’t have to be active on social media to maintain a presence there for business.
I’ve felt so good being away for a month that I’d like to try to extend it by 3 more months. We’ll see how that goes!
Marital Homemaking Goals
My husband and I worked hard to create a 2019 schedule that allows us to spend time with each other and our children every morning and every evening, including breakfast and dinners together. This was no easy feat due to his very long days at work. So, my goal is just to show up and be mindful during our time together. Sounds simple, but when done well, it’s a very powerful way to connect and to grow in our love for one another
Parenting Homemaking Goals
The whole reason I’m at home is to be present for my children in a way that maximizes our time together. I feel fortunate that I get to be the one to shape their values, that they get to learn in an environment that is conducive to their
That being said, I plan to focus on teaching my children more age appropriate and practical skills: letting them get dirty in the kitchen, letting them earn more money for taking responsibility around the house, and allowing them to have more input into what their days look like.
I’m going to start a bullet journal with my daughter since she is very good at reading and writing.
I’ll be coming up with more creative ways to play and documenting the results.
I’ll spend more time having conversations that take place without a screen anywhere in sight.
In short, I plan to spend more time living slowly with my babies. It’s going to be great!
A Good Plan Fosters Good Results
My homemaking goals will guide me into a more mindful life and a more fulfilling experience as a person, as a wife, and as a mother. I look forward to getting back to the basics and taking each moment as it comes.
