Phone Calls Made Me a Nervous Wreck

I spent years dreading phone calls of any kind. I would write scripts with talking points before I called most people, even some friends and relatives! To this day, I rarely have casual phone conversations unless I’m talking to my husband.

I’m an extreme introvert (for the MBTI geeks, I’m an INFJ with an introversion score of 88%), so social interaction has been awkward for me when I’m unfamiliar with a person or a situation.

The hardest part for me was picking up on social cues during conversations. When I was younger, I had a bad habit of running my mouth due to nerves. Gaps in a conversation made me feel extremely uncomfortable because I didn’t know if the other person was enjoying speaking to me.

Since then, I have learned to read people and I do much better with picking up cues when I’m face to face with someone. The phone has been another story.

As an entrepreneur, having phone calls is a part of the job! Whether you need to do market research, interview a potential employee, negotiate with a vendor, or soothe an angry customer, verbal communication is a must.

In order to build my business, I needed to get comfortable on the phone.

Will you please introduce yourself to the Savvy Mocha Mama Community?

My name is Ravi Toor, I am a Coach, Speaker and Entrepreneur

When did you realize you were called to be a businesswoman?

Honestly, in my early 20’s

How was Root Business Solutions born?

RBS was born through my frustrations with my past position in Corporate Finance as a titled Executive Assistant/untitled Business Manager/Chief Operating Officer.

 

I found myself working at this position for 5 years, being paid way below the medium average while being given more and more responsibility as time progressed. I knew I had greater potential and most of all, I knew I had been at war with myself for several years as I was failing to pursue my passion of serving people in a coaching capacity.

 

When RBS began, although it was successful, I found myself still holding on to my corporate crutch and as such, my offers were aligned with a corporate mindset which meant not only was I not challenging myself to pursue my true passions, but I wasn’t accessing even a tenth of my real potential. I called it corporate autopilot.

 

When I realized this, I released all things corporate and fully gave in to my innate gifts of coaching and healing. And from that emerged Ravi Toor Co.

 

Is there one mindset issue that you see over and over when coaching women entrepreneurs?

  1. Absolutely! I see a lack of confidence in term of personal potential within women entrepreneurs of all types and all over the world.

     

    As society has written rules for us, established titles for us and created boxes for us, I find women have lost or even are unaware of their true potential.

     

    Every woman I’ve met and coached has had potential far greater than what she realized.

     

    I’ve found women simply need to be shown who they really are and what they really can create and achieve because let’s face it, deep down within you, there’s a voice telling you, softly, you’re meant for so much more.

     

    My job is to encourage that voice to become loud and for every woman to hear it and finally acknowledge it.

Tell us about the journey you took to create Badass Delivery – Sales and Discovery Calls.

I found many women Entrepreneurs were struggling with sales calls because of the term “sales.” However, what I was seeing was much different than what the Entrepreneurs thought was going on.

 

I found, due to limiting beliefs, lack of confidence and negative external relationships, the Entrepreneur was often left feeling powerless way before the call let alone before the call was scheduled.

 

Because of this, I found Entrepreneurs were engaged in self-sabotaging behaviors trying to not only complete these sales calls but convert a lead into a client.

 

I decided to make things a bit easier by focusing on the powerlessness. My job is to ensure you’re accessing not only your potential but you’re empowered to do so.

 

As such, I created Badass Delivery – Sales & Discovery Calls to help build women Entrepreneurs up from the inside so they shine on the outside.

 

Sales calls are simply conversations. That’s it.

 

I highlight this in the mini course and I help women develop foundational techniques to ensure we develop a strong mindset when it comes to sales and Discovery Calls.

 

This alone shifts the entire experience for the Entrepreneur, ensuring a Badass Sales or Discovery Call where you’re fully in control. You reclaim your power and show up like a lioness.

How did you learn to master your own mindset?

Years of work. Much of what I teach is tried and tested on myself.

 

I’ve spent years in school focusing on the mind and emotions. From there, I continued with personal development throughout my life.

 

Human potential is within each of us, that I was sure of, however, how do I access it? That’s the secret sauce!

 

The simple answer, personal development from the inside out. It’s obviously more work than just that, but once accessed… the results are remarkable.

 

So, aside from education and personal development, I spend much of my spare time observing people in their day to day and I continuously pour myself into further education, following the greats in their journey, studying their habits, achievements and language pertaining to mindset.

 

I also continue to educate myself with new science based material as it becomes available and immerse myself in books from the days of Socrates and Maslow.

One of my favorite parts of the training is The Conditioning of a Badass. You’ve got some great lyrical skills! Do you have experience in the music business or do you like to express yourself with poetry?

I’ve always been in love with music. I believe it has a strong place when it comes to mindset. I honestly believe music and emotion work hand in hand which became the inspiration for Conditioning of a Badass.

 

I do not have any professional music or poetry background but I do enjoy playing around with both in my spare time.

If you had to coach someone with a single sentence, what would you say?

I would have to use the words of the wise Ernest Hemingway from his piece, Invictus: “…I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”
